Catalan is a perfect mix of french and spanish. It looks like a modified version of spanish lenguage for almost all the words are the same in spanish. As a french and spanish speaker, I can easely understand everything in catalan! The pronounciation is yet more lazy, they accentuate a lot the end of their sentences.
